After I bought a Garmin outdoor GPS device last week I was looking around the web for some additional information about GPS.
What I found was a website about geocaching. I didn’t know what geocaching is before so here are a few words about it:
Geocaching is a high-tech treasure hunting sport (well, let’s call it game) where people (geocachers) hide treasures (caches) somewhere in different places (for example in the forest) and post the coordinates on the web. Other geocachers can then use these coordinates along with their GPS devices to go hunting for the hidden treasure.
A cache consists usually of a small box with toys in it. The rules are: You take one toy, you leave one toy and you sign the logbook.
I was so fascinated of that idea that today my brother and I went out for geocaching - with success!
After an one hour walk we reached the coordinates of cache GCHQEC in the middle of nowhere, a 150 meters deep in the forest. After five minutes we already found the cache in an old stump. We signed the logbook, exchanged a small toy and put the cache back to its position.
This was really fun and I’m sure that I’ll go hunting for the next cache in a few days again.

Congrats on your first find! Before you know it you’ll be hooked just like me. I’ve been geocaching since December and I’m having a great time. We have been to lots of great places we would have never found thanks to geocaching. Feel free to drop by my site and read about our adventures. Happy caching! Geocaching With Team Hick@Heart
Congratulations on your first find! We started Geocaching about a year ago. Although we haven’t found all that many we really enjoy it too!
Hey, when you’re not Geocaching check us out sometime at Geocaching Online In addition to our blog we have hundreds of links to Geocaching how-to’s, information and more.
I caught your post from a Google alert on geocaching. Welcome to the addiction!
It’s amazing how fun it is to search for, and find, a small plastic container in the woods. It’s too crazy! Cherish the memory of your first find. There will be many, many more - and it never gets boring.
Check out those websites above. I learned about everything I know from geocachingonline.com. I’ve never personally met those folks, but they have a great site. I’m sure we’ll be hearing more from you and your new obsession in the future.
